Make more of your days off

What is a bridge day?

A bridge day is a working day between days you already have off. In Norway, taking the Friday after Ascension Day off can turn one requested day into a four-day break for someone who works Monday to Friday. Around Easter, Christmas and other public holidays, several requested days can connect a longer break.

How are the suggestions ranked?

By default, suggestions are ranked by consecutive days off per day you need to request, then by the length of the break and its start date. Choose longest breaks first to prioritize uninterrupted time off. The workdays-per-break setting is the most working days you want to take off in one break. For example, 3 finds breaks needing one, two or three working days off; days already off come on top. The optional yearly limit applies to all your selected breaks together. Add alternatives to your plan or select working dates directly in the calendar. Overlapping selections count only once. The annual total includes only breaks containing your selected days, not every weekend in the year.

Leave dates stay within the selected year. Adjacent weekends and public holidays across New Year are included in the length of the break. Overlapping alternatives are grouped under one recommendation; expand the card to compare longer breaks or different leave dates. You can combine options, and shared dates count once.

Your work pattern, your holiday rules

Choose the country or UK region whose public holidays apply to you. Monday–Friday is an editable starting workweek. If you work public holidays, turn that setting off or enter individual extra working dates. Add workplace days off, such as Christmas Eve, explicitly: they are not assumed. School holidays, a fixed summer vacation and an annual leave entitlement are not built in.

“Days to request” means scheduled working dates in this plan. It is not a legal calculation of vacation days deducted by an employer. For example, Norway’s statutory vacation counting can include Saturdays. Confirm the actual deduction and approval with your employer. Norwegian vacation-counting rules.

Holiday coverage and sources

The planner uses the same country rules as our calendar. UK published dates cover 2019–2028; other UK years are projections without exceptional holidays. Future dates assume unchanged rules. Sources checked: 2026-09-28.
